During the period from 1996 to 2003, Dr. Hu practiced hospital-based advanced dentistry as a resident and attending oral physician, as well as complex prosthodontic rehabilitation and dental esthetics as a prosthodontist utilizing dental implants, crowns/bridges, veneers, removable partial and complete dentures. Dr Hu also received additional training on surgical extraction, and minor oral and maxillofacial surgery.
Dr. Hu earned his PHD degree in oral biology and biomaterials at the Ohio State University College of Dentistry where he also gained additional advanced training in cad/cam restorative system, technology of color and appearance matching in dentistry, and maxillofacial prosthetics. He started his orthodontic residency training in 2010 at University of Illinois at Chicago College of Dentistry, while he received Invisalign Certificate, and completed the standard dental laser training at academy of laser dentistry. In 2015, Dr. Hu was awarded his another clinical doctorate degree (DMD) at Boston University Goldman School of Dental Medicine after finishing his two-year advanced standing clinical program.
Dr. Hu has published over 20 articles or abstracts in peer-reviewed scientific journals and/or at dental and medical conferences. Dr. Hu has been a member of American Dental Association and Massachusetts Dental Society, International & American Association for Dental Research, American Association of Orthodontics, and Society for Color and Appearance in Dentistry etc. He serves as a reviewer for over 10 dental and medical scientific journals including: Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry, American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentalfacial Orthopedics, Chinese Journal of Prosthodontics, Dental Materials etc. Dr. Hu has maintained his academic ties in academic activities in dentistry with the Forsyth Institute, and the Ohio State University College of Dentistry.

1990年毕业于齐鲁大学口腔医学院，经过3年的地方上口腔临床工作的锤炼，1993年考入北京大学口腔医学院口腔病理研究生，1998年以优秀博士毕业论文奖的成绩，获口腔博士学位。并于同年获加拿大国家基金ba，赴加拿大蒙特利尔的McGill University医学中心从事博士后研究，研究内容主要是和博士论文相近的“破骨细胞和牙槽骨吸收破骨机制”方面。博士后的具体研究主要是利用该机制对佝偻病的患者进行基因治疗。前期研究主要集中在小鼠身上进行；利用基因片段提取生成蛋白质，通过赵博士发明的相关技术，对小鼠尾巴进行蛋白静脉注射，以观察小鼠的变化。赵博士完成博士后工作后，进入一家生物技术公司继续将这种基因治疗方法推广到临床。
